Understanding Male Infertility
Male infertility can be caused by a a group of factors. In about 30 to 40 percent of cases, the testes (the glands that produce sperm and testosterone) are the problem. The testes can be damaged due to prior surgery or trauma. Other causes can include:
- Low sperm production, which can be caused by chronic illness, drug abuse, and poor overall health
- Sperm with decreased mobility or abnormal shape
- Vas deferens blockage
- Hormone deficiency (although this cause is rare)
